The burger carried the spirit of a classic diner staple, though elevated in flavor and execution. Not knowing exactly what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised by the Happy Valley 6 oz charred patty, which was cooked perfectly and topped with cheese melted under a broiler. The seasoning was kept simple—just salt and pepper—allowing the quality of the beef to stand on its own. The mushroom gochujang sauce was both delicate and flavorful, adding depth without overpowering the burger. The buns, made with scallions folded into the dough before baking, offered a subtle detail that neither added nor detracted significantly from the experience. They did, however, have a soft sweetness that complemented the savory components well.
The overall atmosphere strikes a cool, casual tone with a classic diner aesthetic and outdoor seating available. The open kitchen allows guests to watch the cooks at work, which adds an engaging element to the visit. Located near the Manhattan Bridge, the outdoor seating comes with the ambient roar of passing trains—a distinctly New York backdrop.
I visited with my fiancée, and our total came to under $80 for two burgers, two beers, a Thai tres leches, and an overall great experience. Service was impressively fast, and I would certainly return—either to explore more of the menu or to order the burger again.
Most importantly, it passes the quality-to-value ratio with flying colors.
